Order of the Sinking Star

Unlikely Heroes

Filter eleven roles by world or by whether an actor is named.

A party of heroes in a room that needs more than one body.

The unlikely heroes are a roster of roles, not a set of portraits. No portrait has been released for these eleven. Sort them by the world they belong to and by whether an actor is named. Filter by world when you want the whole north party together. Filter by voice when you want only the roles with a named performer, or only the roles left unnamed.

A signature sound is foley tied to a body, not a second character. The Queen clinks in armor. The Warrior’s leather cuirass creaks. Beads knock on the Thief’s bag. The Bard’s lute is a recorded instrument, not a loop. Several roles have no signature sound at all. The Castaway amulet is a foley example, not an extra hero.

Queen

You guide her, and her past is its own story layer.

Emily O’Brien’s other roles include Death Stranding and Starfield. She is not the lead of one cardinal path. Taking her through a world is how that layer of her history opens.

Warrior

He travels in the north crew without a private hauling verb.

Liam O’Brien’s other roles include Critical Role and The Legend of Vox Machina. Push, pull, and teleport belong to the party, so the Warrior is a body in the chain rather than a solo class.

Thief

She travels in the north crew, and no personal verb is named.

The Thief is one of the six hauling roles. Beads on her bag are the signature sound. No actor is named, so she sorts with the other unnamed roles.

Wizard

He travels in the north crew, and no personal verb is his alone.

Darin De Paul’s other roles include Overwatch and Marvel’s Spider-Man. The Wizard has no named signature sound. His place in a room is as part of the crew’s push, pull, and teleport chains.

Bard

She charms and moves crystals while she plays.

The lute was recorded with Fredrik Bock in 2022. The 19 June demo update added the Bard, along with the Druid and a puzzle count that passed 100. Charming crystals is her extra action beside the crew verbs.

Cleric

Named in the north party, with no unique action.

The Cleric is one of the six and has no personal action, no actor, and no signature sound. Use the crew verbs for any room that includes this role, and do not expect a heal or a blessing mechanic.

Druid

He accidentally transmutes friends and objects.

Matthew Waterson’s other roles include X-Men ’97 and Hades II. The Druid arrived in the same demo update as the Bard. Transmutation is the extra action, and he has no named signature sound.

Trader

He swaps with reflections and uses mirrors as tools.

The Trader is a wealthy voyager on a pristine archipelago. Standing farther from the glass throws the reflection farther. He has no named actor and no signature sound, so the mirror distance is the thing to learn.

Explorer

She channels colored beams through giant gems.

Beams phase through walls, smash boulders, and teleport across a gap. Combining the right colors opens a blocked path. The Explorer has no named actor and no signature sound.

Sailor

She skips stones and rides lily pads between islands.

Erica Luttrell’s other roles include Apex Legends and Steven Universe. She is marooned and plans routes over open water. The Castaway amulet is foley, not a second hero beside her.

Talking boat

Listed as a hero, with no path and no personal action.

The talking boat is one of the unlikely heroes in the roster and in the story. No cardinal path and no actor are assigned. It stays with the unnamed voices until a performer or a realm is named.

Voices without a role

Jonathan Blow has a special appearance in addition to directing. That appearance is not tied to the Queen, the boat, or any other role, so it stays a credit rather than a twelfth hero. Four more performers are additional voices with no role: Erik Braa, Andrew Kishino, Jamieson K. Price, and Sabrina Fest. If you are searching for one of those names, they are credited and still have no role of their own. Hearing one of those four names in a crowd scene does not reveal a hidden twelfth job.

The named pairings are stable enough to sort. Emily O’Brien, Liam O’Brien, Darin De Paul, Anjali Bhimani, Matthew Waterson, and Erica Luttrell each have one role. The Thief, Cleric, Trader, Explorer, and talking boat share the voice label Unnamed, so one filter hides every role without an actor. Sorting by sound clusters the armor clink, the cuirass creak, the beads, and the lute, and leaves the unnamed sounds together.

How to use the filters

World is the faster cut. Hauling returns the six northern roles. Mirrors returns only the Trader. Promise returns only the Explorer. Stones returns only the Sailor. Guided returns the Queen. The boat has its own world key because no path was assigned. Voice separates the six named actors from the shared unnamed group. Sort by role, world, voice, or sound using the column buttons or the sort menu. The count under the menus is the visible rows over eleven.

The long notes cover prior credits, the demo update that added the Bard and the Druid, and the Castaway amulet, which is foley rather than a hero. Role, world, actor, and sound are the four facts to sort, and they stay readable when the screen is narrow. Nothing in the roster is a puzzle solution. A room still has to be solved in the game. The roster tells you who is allowed to be in that room.

Questions

Why do five roles share one voice label?

Actors are named for the Queen, Warrior, Wizard, Bard, Druid, and Sailor. None are named for the Thief, Cleric, Trader, Explorer, or the talking boat. Those five share one filter value so you can hide every unnamed role in a single step, or hide the named cast and read only the gaps. A later credit could split them. Until then the shared label is the accurate one.

Is the Castaway a twelfth hero?

No. The Castaway amulet is a foley example from the signature-sound work. It has no world, no actor, and no place beside the Sailor. The talking boat is the extra roster entry, and it already has no path. The amulet belongs with the sounds. The boat is the extra hero.
